Our Causes
We focus on promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water and sanitation, saving mothers and children, supporting education, growing local economies, and protecting the environment.
Foundation and Fundraising Achievements
• Raised $1.725 million for our local Foundation and contributed $1.1 million to The Rotary Foundation, which provides grants with a multiplier effect.
• Raised $165,000 for Rotary’s End Polio Now initiative, which is matched 2:1 by the Gates Foundation. Without continued efforts, polio could paralyze up to 200,000 children per year within a decade.
Key Projects and Initiatives
Community Service
• Hope Award: Presented $92,500 to local nonprofits for their efforts in fostering hope with this annual award.
• Community Forums: Co-sponsored eight annual forums with experts addressing mental health, public safety, climate, political polarization, and other areas of critical concern.
• Education & Literacy: Donated 13,000 books and supported various educational programs and nonprofits.
• Combating Sexual Exploitation: Supported A.C.T. United in educating 3,000 students on sexual exploitation.
• Food Security: Funded 3,500 meals per year and packed 6,000 meals annually for food shelves.
• Clothing & Essentials: Donated 34,000 hats and mittens to social service agencies and 2,000 holiday gifts to families in need. Donated financial and volunteer assistance to 3000 Acts of Kindness providing hope, help and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Senior Assistance: Raked 410 yards for seniors and other challenged homeowners.
• Community Enrichment: Built two musical instrument playgrounds and donated solar panels to a Habitat for Humanity home.
International Service
Our recent Global Grant projects, leveraging Rotary matches and direct gifts, have raised over $1.1M to address urgent challenges for 17,000 of the poorest and most vulnerable people globally. Highlights include:
• $800,000 for clean water and sanitation systems in rural Honduras, benefiting over 14,000 people.
• $280,000 for a water distribution and filtration system in Milla Tres, Honduras, serving 2,500 people.
• $75,000 for the Mayan Women’s Prosperity Initiative, empowering 800 women in Guatemalan villages through small business cooperatives.
Other efforts include:
• Sponsoring 84 Youth Exchange Students, fostering global goodwill and understanding.
• Awarding two Minneapolis students each a $30,000 global grant scholarship for graduate studies abroad in our areas of focus.
• Partnering with Warsaw Rotary Club to provide water filters for 100 families in Ukraine.
• Contributing $5,000 and hands-on assembly for Days for Girls, supplying feminine hygiene kits for 1,000 girls to stay in school.
• Supporting Engineers Without Borders to build school facilities in an underserved Guatemalan community.
• Funding $10,000 to Kiva for revolving microloans, supporting thousands of women annually in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
Vocational Service
• Promote our members’ professional growth through networking events, small group discussions, and mentoring.
• Over 15 years, we’ve provided $115,000 in scholarships for Dunwoody College’s Youth Career Awareness Program and Pathway to Careers program.
• Conducted 130 mock interviews with Dunwoody YCAP students.
• Sponsored 200 students in Junior Achievement’s financial literacy and entrepreneurship programs.
• Supported high school students to attend Rotary Camp Enterprise and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) programs, fostering entrepreneurship and leadership skills.
• Funded the LEAD National Student Leadership Conference for FAIR School for Arts students.
