COL Rotarians help pack food for kids at Every Meal

On Saturday, August 14, the Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club held its first food packing event at Every Meal’s warehouse in Roseville. We packed 1,872 bags of food, or about 7,175 meals, in about 90 minutes. Holly Daniels, Every Meal’s Volunteer Coordinator, noted that Every Meal will be providing weekend food to over 7,000 students in Minnesota and Western Wisconsin this coming school year, and seeks to provide food to 10,000 students each week in the near future.

Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary Club has partnered with Every Meal (formerly The Sheridan Story) since 2016 to combat weekend hunger for hundreds of school-age children in Minneapolis. In 2020, we partnered with the Burnsville, Minneapolis South and Minneapolis Uptown Rotary clubs to receive a $10,000 district grant that, along with $6,000 of club grants and a third party match provided $32,000 worth of meals to kids during the pandemic. To give an idea of the impact of that, $250 normally funds one child with a bag of food each weekend during a school year (about 4 meals/weekend for 40 weeks, or 160 meals).
