Understanding the health of the Mississippi River. What approach do we take and how do we know?

Jordan Donatell has worked at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency(MPCA) for 17 years and is currently the supervisor of the South Biological Monitoring Unit. Jordan started at MPCA as student worker in biological monitoring program in 2007 using fish population data to understand the health of Minnesota’s streams and rivers. He has also worked in water chemistry monitoring to understand water quality condition and water quality project management over his time with MPCA. Jordan’s current position works with staff in the biological monitoring program at MPCA to collect fish and aquatic bugs from rivers across Minnesota to understand the health of these waters.

Jordan Donatell will discuss a simple presentation of the Mississippi River in Minnesota related to the health of the water quality as it is currently known. This conversation will include an outline of an upcoming water quality monitoring initiative on the Mississippi River that is starting in June of 2024, which includes water quality monitoring of this river in and around the Twin Cities Metropolitan area.
