What's Your IQ (Inclusivity Quotient)?
Sep. 09, 2020 7:30 a.m.
Current events have awoken many to the stark reality of the inequities in our communities. While it came as a shock to some, it was all too familiar to others. No matter where you reside on the awareness spectrum, most will end up with the same questions. What part do I play? What can I do about it? Today, let's begin by understanding your IQ and what you can do to improve it. Rosemary Ugboajah is the founder and CEO of Neka Creative, a brand development agency committed to bringing the power of inclusion to organizations through their proprietary process, Inclusivity Marketing™. In addition to over ten years of brand agency ownership, Rosemary gained her breath of experience from various advertising agencies where she worked on numerous brands such as 3M, Frango, Xcel Energy, Cargill and Johnson and Johnson Vision Care. She also gained corporate experience as a marketer for Target Corporation. As founder and CEO of Neka Creative, she has led several strategic and creative projects such as: CareerForce—Minnesota’s statewide workforce system, Hennepin County’s LRT extension corridor, The Commons Park, US Bank Stadium and The NCAA’s Final Four Tournament to mention a few. A testament to her zeal for excellence, her agency has won multiple awards and continues to be recognized as a leading voice on inclusion in the industry. Rosemary studied art and design at West Kensington College of Arts in London and has a Bachelor of Arts in Advertising from the University of Minnesota. Rosemary currently serves on the board of Art Buddies and the Minneapolis Downtown Council/Downtown Improvement District. She is also the co-founder of ArtWest, a non-profit with a mission to advance equity in art education. |

As we prepare for the upcoming holiday season -- one we can't ignore given the recent weather - we've scheduled our meetings for November and December. Mark your calendars now. We will meet on November 19 at 5:30 and December 17 at 5:30. We will use the same Zoom login as listed above.

Because it is difficult to meet in person or to tour breweries, I'm going to be looking to change the format for the November and December meetings. I'm looking to invite brewmasters from craft breweries to join us to give tours and talk about their product. Look for an upcoming list of breweries so you can sample some of the breweries wares while being given a behind-the-counter tour. If you have any suggestions of places you'd like to see -- let me know.
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
If you have a recommendation for future locations, please forward them to me here at Brewtarians@gmail.com. The location should have ample parking, plenty of space for up to 30 people -- and until further notice, have plenty of warm, indoor socially distanced seating.

Investing in US Small Businesses and Employee Ownership
Nov. 04, 2020 7:30 a.m.
Small businesses employ almost half the workforce and U.S. Baby Boomers, who own at least 2.3 million of them, need to sell over the next decade. Attempted sale processes fail 80% of the time. There just aren’t enough buyers. Employees are the natural buyers but don’t have the risk-tolerance, money, or experience to do it alone. Teamshares is solving this problem by buying companies from retirement-age owners and transitioning them to majority employee ownership over 10+ years. Teamshares buy companies from retiring owners, seed employee ownership, incorporate our financial software and education, and plug them into our peer network. The team has successfully completed the first three small business transitions and employee-ownership conversions at Teamshares in 1Q20, the second of which was Planforce Group, an architecture firm right here in greater Minneapolis. Alex Eu is a co-founder of Teamshares, a venture backed company helping convert small businesses to be employee owned. He is also President of All Type Electric, a family and employee owned electrical contractor and a co-founder of Libero Sports, an emerging markets soccer agency. He previously worked at investment firm The Chernin Group and investment bank Perella Weinberg Partners Mike Schahfer is the Director of Business Operations at Teamshares where he works on building a smooth onboarding and transition process for our companies. Mike started his career at the Boston Consulting Group before working in operations at a N.Y. based charter school network called Uncommon Schools. He received his B.A. from Duke University and remains a huge fan of its basketball team. |

Get your tickets to see a special Zoom version of A Christmas Carol from the Guthrie. Watch it prior to December 21, 202,0 and then join your City of Lakes Rotary friends to discuss it at 7:00 PM on Monday, December 21! The Guthrie's McGuire Proscenium Stage was converted into a film set during November as Joseph Haj and filmmaker E.G. Bailey co-directed Dickens' Holiday Classic. A small group of beloved local actors, crew members, and staff worked together to fuse theater and film into an all-new production being edited as we speak. And the Guhtrie is not alone. As The New York Times reported, many theaters are keeping their holiday traditions alive with virtual variations of their staged A Christmas Carol productions — the Guthrie included. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online here. If you purchase a ticket, you will create and/or log into your account on the Guthrie's website to view the prerecorded performance at your convenience beginning December 19. You and members of your household may watch it an unlimited number of times until the link expires at 11:59 p.m. on December 31. Our group discussion will take place on December 21 at 7:00 PM via Zoom: Click to Join the Meeting Meeting ID: 839 2239 4336

Physician Suicide during COVID-19
Jan. 27, 2021 7:30 a.m.
While we are all too aware that the coronavirus has challenged our healthcare systems, our country and our world, the pressures physicians and health care workers face even before the pandemic are complex and immense. They dedicate their careers to keeping people healthy, but too often do not receive the care they need to address their own well-being.Statistics show physicians have a high rate of suicide with roughly one doctor dying every day, nearly double the rate of the general population. They will also discuss strategies for organizational culture change around stress, burnout, and fostering resilience in healthcare settings. Join us on January 27 to hear two leading University of Minnesota Medical School professionals (Dr. Jeff Wozniak and Dr. Sophia Albott) tell us more. Dr. Jeffrey Wozniak received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Kent State University in 1997, internship at the University of Minnesota in 1997, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology at the University of Minnesota in 1999. He also trains graduate students and clinical psychology interns in the practice of clinical neuropsychology. His clinical interests include neuropsychological evaluation of children with neurological and psychiatric disorders, consultation with schools regarding academic programming and modifications, and clinical training. Dr. Sophia Albott received a BA in Neuroscience from Grinnell College in Iowa and then graduated with a BA and a Masters in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.
