Make plans now to join us at Community Emergency Services (CES) on Saturday, July 6, 2019. This will be another of our family friendly, bi-monthly food shelf volunteer events where we will pack food and sundry items in accordance with the “shopping” lists of approximately 140 of CES’s home delivery clients. The event will start at 9:00 AM and conclude sometime between 10:30 and 11:00. No need to register. Parking is available in the small lot behind the building or on 19th Street. Please enter the building from the entrance off of the parking lot (the door is sometimes locked, so you may need to ring the bell). CES’s address is 1900 11th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55404 (corner of 11th Avenue South and 19th Street). If you plan on attending and wish to bring food or sundry items to donate, please feel free to do so. They are usually low on coffee and tea, both of which are available in $1 packages at Dollar Tree. Canned tuna and chicken are always welcome, as well. They also accept pet food and litter for their pet food shelf. CES will provide a receipt to you for your donation. Hope you can make it on July 6! Also, here are our food shelf/home delivery program dates for the rest of 2019 and January of 2020: 2019 CES Food Shelf Dates
Thank You! |

Oct. 26, 2019 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Former RI President Ian S. Riseley challenged Rotary clubs across the globe to plant a tree for every member of our clubs in our local communities. Minneaplis Club #9 and Minneapolis City of Lakes Rotary joined forces to support the efforts of non-profit Mississippi Park Connection and the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, the National Park in the heart of the Twin Cities. Please join us on Oct. 26 as we move the trees that our members planted in the tree nursery last May into their permanent homes in the national park. The nursery (also known as a gravel bed) housed 250 bare root trees over the summer to receive the critical care needed to ensure their success once transferred to the ground in the park. Please contact Jodi Massey with City of Lakes or Jim Hancock with #9 to RSVP or to get more info. About Plant for the Future |

"The Joys of Life"
Dec. 04, 2019
William (Bill) Webb was the band director at Edina High School for 24 years. He taught band for 37 years in Minnesota at all levels, from elementary through college. In October this year, Bill was inducted into the Minnesota High School League Hall of Fame. Falling into the category of “you never know where life will take you,” in 2015 Bill was prescribed a strong antibiotic, Levaquin, for a simple sinus infection. After taking just 3 pills, Bill’s central nervous system had a horrible reaction to it, and he has been in a wheelchair since. Bill’s presentation will focus on various life challenges and more importantly, “The Joys of Life”. |

As a follow up to our Holiday Gift Drive donations received during our COLRC club meetings on 12/4 and 12/11, join us for a fun evening helping kids at the Boys & Girls Club Northeast location (address below) to help kids wrap gifts and shop for their families. It is important to register yourself and any guests for this event!
When: December 18th from 4pm – 7pm (for those who are able, you can get there as early as 2:00 p.m.) Where: Jerry Gamble – 2410 Irving Avenue North, Minneapolis What: Shop with kids; Wrap gifts; Assist with holiday crafts and cookies!
Kids Can Give ensures all Boys & Girls Club members have a joyous holiday season as they partake in the act of giving. Each December, Club members are asked to give a small $3-5 donation that will support a youth-driven holiday celebration at each Club. In return, each young person is able to shop for gifts for their families in the Kids Can Give holiday stores set up at each Boys & Girls Club. The holiday stores are filled with gifts that have been donated from community members and organizations.
It will be an incredible experience for all involved to see the excitement in the kids as they think of their loved ones and shop for special holiday gifts! Gifts are wrapped on-site with the help of staff and volunteers and are sent home with the kids just in time for the holidays. After our volunteering, we will then meet for happy hour to enjoy each other's company and pretend that we've been whisked away to an island location at Psycho Suzi's Tiki Bar. If you're not able to make the volunteer event, please feel free to join us afterward. psychosuzis.com

Mighty Doodle™ leverages technology to provide individualized learning through a gamified format that rivals Fortnite. It is the equivalent of giving every student a private tutor who keeps the child engaged and learning. Literacy Matters successfully completes the mission Sarah began 12 years ago during her tenure at the Legislature. |

The World Health Organization says that the single most effective way to spend a $1 on global health outcomes is to educate girls and women. As Days for Girls states, "Let's turn Periods into Pathways for girls around the world." With your help, we can reach Every Girl. Period.
No sewing experience required. Just bring yourself and training will be provided. Feel free to invite others to this fun event. Judy Johnson, Twin Cities Days for Girls Coordinator with the Maple Grove Rotary Club will guide us through the kit making process. We greatly welcome those with sewing experience and willingness to bring their sewing machines to the event. |

Sheriff Hutchinson’s Year 1 Recap – And What’s Ahead
Mar. 04, 2020
David Hutchinson took office as the 28th Sheriff of Hennepin County on January 7, 2019. As Sheriff, David Hutchinson has focused on issues of staff and community wellness, community safety, and providing a workforce that mirrors the residents of Hennepin County. He is nationally recognized for his work on providing officer wellness and medication assisted treatment. In his first year as Sheriff, he created an internal wellness unit called Tri Wellness, in order to help his staff deal with the stresses of the law enforcement field. He firmly believes that keeping deputies mentally, physically and spiritually healthy will lead to better service for the public. At the beginning of his second year, he created two new divisions: The Community Outreach Division, and The Criminal Intelligence Division.
He currently serves as Technology Chair for the Major County Sheriff’s Association, as well as serving as Secretary for the Major County Sheriff’s Association Foundation Board. He serves as a Board Member on the Minnesota Post Board, and he serves on Mayor Jacob Frey’s Violence Prevention Steering Committee. As Sheriff, he continues to strengthen relationships with Partner Agencies, as well as local Law Enforcement Offices. Serving as Sheriff is a true honor, and he is delighted to be invited to speak to all of you. |
