2021-01-27 07:30:00Z Jan 27, 2021 Physician Suicide during COVID-19 Jeffrey Wozniak, PHD, LP & Sophia Albott, MD, MA Physician Suicide during COVID-19 Jan 27, 2021 7:30 AM

While we are all too aware that the coronavirus has challenged our healthcare systems, our country and our world, the pressures physicians and health care workers face even before the pandemic are complex and immense. They dedicate their careers to keeping people healthy, but too often do not receive the care they need to address their own well-being.Statistics show physicians have a high rate of suicide with roughly one doctor dying every day, nearly double the rate of the general population. They will also discuss strategies for organizational culture change around stress, burnout, and fostering resilience in healthcare settings. Join us on January 27 to hear two leading University of Minnesota Medical School professionals (Dr. Jeff Wozniak and Dr. Sophia Albott) tell us more.

Dr. Jeffrey Wozniak received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at Kent State University in 1997, internship at the University of Minnesota in 1997, and a post-doctoral fellowship in Pediatric Neuropsychology at the University of Minnesota in 1999. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Psychology. He is a Licensed Psychologist in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Dr. Wozniak runs the Child and Adolescent Neuropsychology Clinic in the Department of Psychiatry where he sees patients with a variety of neurodevelopmental, neurological, and psychiatric conditions. He also trains graduate students and clinical psychology interns in the practice of clinical neuropsychology. His clinical interests include neuropsychological evaluation of children with neurological and psychiatric disorders, consultation with schools regarding academic programming and modifications, and clinical training.

Dr. Sophia Albott received a BA in Neuroscience from Grinnell College in Iowa and then graduated with a BA and a Masters in Philosophy from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. She completed medical school here at the University of Minnesota, where she also did her residency in psychiatry, and her T32 postdoctoral fellowship in psychiatric comorbidity.

Dr. Albott is an adult psychiatrist with a clinical focus on neuromodulation, deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS), treatment-resistant depression, mood disorders, translational neuroscience, women's mental health, and comorbid psychiatric disorders. Her research focuses on investigating novel treatments and diagnostic tools for characterizing pathological responses to trauma, which focuses on post traumatic stress disorder and depression.

2021-02-17 07:30:00Z Feb 17, 2021 Journey To Peacebunny Island Caleb Smith, CEO/Founder Peacebunny Islands Inc. Journey To Peacebunny Island Feb 17, 2021 7:30 AM

Discover the remarkable story of a 16-year old social entrepreneur and Paul Harris fellow who naturally sees the value in things often “discarded” and the people who are often “dismissed.”

At the age of 8, Caleb Smith began to rescue rabbits no longer wanted after Easter. This motivated him to create an educational nonprofit to help youth, who like the rabbits, fall through the gaps.  Then, in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook school shooting, Caleb personally witnessed therapy animals in action. He envisioned youth, mobilized to save rabbits, they would train to become comfort animals. At 14, he rented, and ultimately purchased, a 22-acre Mississippi River island to serve as a summer sanctuary for these rare-breed rabbits and rescues.

Find yourself inspired to reflect on what would you attempt if you knew you couldn’t fail and discover what can happen when we choose to be open, look for potential and possibility, and add in patience, persistence and a bunch of positivity.
